The Healthcare Assistant supports the pharmacist in delivering basic healthcare services and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within the pharmacy. The role involves assisting patients, performing basic health checks, maintaining hygiene standards, managing stock, and supporting the dispensing process under the supervision of the pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist in serving patients and responding to basic health inquiries.
- Support the dispensing process by preparing prescriptions and packaging medications under supervision.
- Perform basic health checks such as blood pressure, temperature, blood sugar, or weight where applicable.
- Provide basic health information and guidance to patients as directed by the pharmacist.
- Assist with first aid and minor wound care when necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the pharmacy environment and equipment.
- Help with stock management, including receiving, organizing, and monitoring medicine inventory.
- Assist in record keeping and documentation of patient services and pharmacy activities.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and pharmacy regulations.
- Direct patients with complex medical questions to the pharmacist or other healthcare professionals.
Requirements
- Certificate or Diploma in Healthcare Assistance, Nursing Assistance, or a related healthcare field.
- Basic understanding of patient care and medical terminology.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a customer-facing healthcare environment.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and vital signs monitoring.
